One of the main things to consider when choosing a fragrance is the weather because of how it affects the performance and smell of the scent on the skin. However, this can be particularly hard for people who live in a tropical country like the Philippines because of the unpredictable weather. Most days, our mornings feel like the peak of summer due to the blazing heat but then come the afternoon when a sudden downpour of rain happens. This can leave us feeling like it’s still too hot to go too warm and earthy for our perfumes, but at the same we’re ready for a hint of musk and a dab of patchouli due to the gloomy afternoon. Thankfully Jo Malone London’s philosophy of scent pairing and their new “Blossoms” collection can tow the line between weathers and occasions effortlessly.

The Blossoms Collection

The British perfumery’s new collection, Blossoms, features three Italian-inspired summer scents namely Bitter Mandarin, Sea Daffodil and Silk Blossom that can function both on their own and in concert with others.

Celine Roux, Global Head of Fragrance at Jo Malone London describes the Bitter Mandarin Cologne as “sparkling, summery and bitter with a fresh fougère twist.” Like a perfect mimosa on a hot day, it has notes of vibrant mandarin, warm amber and orris that give it a vibrant citrusy scent while hints of amber and fougère add depth to help it last longer on the skin.

The Sea Daffodil Cologne is my personal favorite that’s inspired by the white flowers on the coast native to the Mediterranean region. “Sea daffodil belongs to the lily family, but it’s not as spicy as the conventional lily; it’s much more delicate and transparent. Because it grows near the sea, it has an aqueous quality and an addictive fragrance too,” shares Alexis Dadier, acclaimed perfumer. It is made with ylang-ylang, vanilla, and sandalwood that can make you feel and smell fresh from the first spritz.

Lastly, their Silk Blossom Cologne returns with a new complex blend of spices, gentle florals, and zesty fruit notes. And to complete the line-up, they have a Orange Blossom Hair Mist that’s enriched with argan oil and vitamin B5 to give hair a healthy shine, and Nectarine Blossom & Honey Diffuser.

What is Scent Pairing?

To create a custom olfactory experience, partner these pretty little bottles with other Jo Malone scents since its specifically made with a streamlined selection of notes. This means you can pair any of the brand’s perfumes together without it being too overwhelming.

“The personalization that Scent Pairing allows is at the heart of everything we do, it’s central to the thought process from the very start and means that the way we develop our fragrances is truly unique.,” describes Roux.

If you’re a scent pairing beginner, Roux advises starting with two scents. You can either spray a certain fragrance on each wrist or one on the front of your neck and the other on the nape. Play around with the Blossoms collection and pair it with deeper Jo Malone options like the Basil & Mandarin or Wild Bluebell. A pro tip is that heavier scents should be sprayed first so they don’t overpower their lighter counterparts.

The Blossoms Collection is available in Jo Malone London stores at Rustan’s, SM Aura, SM Megamall, and Greenbelt 5. To learn more, head to their website.
