It was at 16 years old when Asia’s Songbird, Regine-Velasquez-Alcasid, started in the industry. And while our January 2019 cover star is as fierce as when she first emerged, she keeps herself rooted in her humble beginnings.
Getting into showbiz can involve extremely overwhelming transformations, especially in the cases of overnight success stories. For Regine, the road was a long and winding one, where, ironically enough, she began with the feeling she didn’t have a voice.
“I started very very young in the industry, [so] I would just follow whatever they ask me to do. I didn’t have a voice,” she shared to MEGA. But as time allowed her to grow wiser and understand the workings behind the curtain, she grew into the star she is today and got more involved in her craft.
It was in 1994 when the Songbird first spread her wings and let her voice ring out. She also began to direct the production of her album, “Reason Enough”. From there she highlighted experimentation as one of the factors that played a large part in her success. This is why her passion for music, fashion, and beauty would constantly drive her to challenge herself and take things up a notch.
It is this adventurous and determined spirit that makes it no surprise that Regine would land on MEGA’s covers regularly. From doing her first-ever shoot in 2001 to becoming the face of the REIGN campaign with BYS for this year’s first cover, she impeccably exudes the air of regality of a true queen. After all, she is a legend.
