When the community quarantine kept most of us at home, many turned to things that made them feel safe, comfortable and relaxed. In clothes, loungewear became the de facto look. A year later, many have opted to elevate their at-home clothes: comfort wasn’t just the priority—it had to look good too. Enter Uniqlo, the Japanese retailer that offers exactly that: well-made, classic items that are versatile—they can be dressed up for Zoom office calls or kept easy for the weekends. Not content to simply rely on what they were known for, Uniqlo offered an easy and dependable way to shop for their clothes (purchases can be picked up in-store or delivered days after), and also offered the universally loved Airism face mask: lightweight, reusable and in neutral colors of white, black and grey, these masks became one of the top fashion items for many Filipinos. All these make up why MEGA Magazine decided to award Uniqlo as the Most Influential Global Fashion Brand in the MEGA Fashion Awards, co-presented by RLC Residences.
While many brands have brought out their own chic loungewear sets, Uniqlo remains a favorite, having stayed true to their brand DNA since day 1. And even as restrictions loosen and people start going again, no doubt that Uniqlo’s range of offerings will remain top-of-mind for many. Whether it’s a high-end collaboration with a noted designer such as JW Anderson or Haider Ackerman or their cute, kitschy t-shirts that feature everything from Star Wars to the latest anime, Uniqlo’s brand of well-made essentials will continue to be favorites—now and in the future.
