Unconditional Love: Celebrity Moms Raising Special Children

By

Even if Mother’s Day has already passed, it’s still vital to give the spotlight to the special women in our lives, today and every day.

Though being a mom doesn’t come with an instruction manual, these celebrity moms raising their kids with special needs are a shining example of the lengths a mother’s love can go. A single day isn’t enough to celebrate these women, but we’re here to give them the floor.

Kris Aquino

We may know her as the queen of gab, but Kris has dealt endless sacrifices in bringing up her firstborn son, Josh. As a mother to someone born with autism, Kris has been consistent in defending her son from online trolls and negative commentators on social media.

When asked why she still hits back on Instagram, Kris explains: “Simple lang, diba. Lahat naman kayo alam ko pareho ang saloobin. At lahat ng mga magulang kapag anak ang hinamak, LALABAN.”

Saab Magalona

In a touching video titled “PANCHO BACARRO: THE ORIGIN STORY,” the Cheats frontman and mommy vlogger shared the complications that ensued after her first pregnancy—where she and husband Jim Bacarro lost Pancho’s twin sister, Luna.

After weeks in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), Pancho was found to have serious internal bleeding causing damage to parts of his brain.

Now three years old, Jim and Saab take Pancho to regular physical therapy sessions and are shining examples of dealing with a special toddler.

Karen Davila

Karen’s eldest son David was also born with autism. Now at 18, the veteran journalist is still on an “endless pursuit” to ensure that her son is given the best treatment.

“We have been committed. I am very passionate about this. I am on an endless pursuit for David’s best,” Karen had shared in an interview with a fellow mom, Bianca Gonzalez.

Candy Pangilinan

Perhaps one of the most vocal mothers when it comes to raising a child is the comedienne Candy Pangilinan. As a single mother of her son Quentin who has been diagnosed with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) and Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), Candy regularly updates her followers on YouTube about their mother-son adventures.
