In a beauty pageant, they usually hold the national costume runway show before the coronation night. During this highly anticipated segment, beauty queens represent their hometown by honoring them through their national costume. Each of the girls were separated in to groups according to the region they are in. Most queens from Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao were grouped together. After which, they all take turns in parading and explaining their national costume. This part of the pre-pageant festivities does not only highlight the beauty of the contestant and the knowledge she possesses about her heritage, but it is also a way to showcase talented designers from all over the Philippines.
As a pageant fan myself, I’ve found the national costume segment to be a great way to see which queen stands out from the rest. Each of the designers and the queens make a collaborative effort to create these garments, so you can see how much thought is being placed on to the craft. On top of this, you’ll also see the effort and creativity of both parties.
