Thoughts On The Final Trailer Of Star Wars: The Rise Of Skywalker From A Not-So Fan

By

After The Force Awakens and The Last Jedi, the official trailer of Star Wars sequel trilogy’s third installment has arrived in the form of Rise of Skywalker.

With the final drop of the teaser for Walt Disney Pictures and  J.J. Abrams’ last chapter of the Skywalker Saga, I was particularly struck by a tearjerker moment: When Luke says “May the force be with you,” and Leia responds “always.” Even without being entrenched or caught up with Canon, I already know this is going to be one great emotional goodbye.

Before the movie enters the cinema, co-writer Chris Terrio shares with Empire details on the upcoming Episode IX. “‘How strong is the Force?’ It sounds a little simple, but actually when you get down to it, that is a sort of Zen Koan that we would really meditate on–not literally in yoga poses or anything,” shares Chris with Empire. “But like we would discuss, ‘What is the Force and how strong is the Force?’ Those two things were really important.”

I’ve talked to a few Star Wars fans and they shared what they wanted to see from the ninth Star Wars film. While some of them wanted to feel quite nostalgic with characters from previous trilogies, some are just looking forward to sit back and enjoy the elements of Star Wars film with a prepared box of tissue.

As a non-Star Wars fan (I know, gasp, but we exist), upon seeing the gathering of troops and the epic lightsaber battles, I was captured. While the trailer brought speculations of my own on what this space-opera is going to have this time, I also wanted to find out more about it myself, perhaps maybe even going on a deep dive into the galaxy far, far away just in time for the movie’s premiere. The long and short of it is, I am very intrigued.

Whether Chewbacca yields and unleashes chaos with his shotgun, a bicker ensues between C-3PO and R2-D2 or if we figure out the bloodlines of Rey Skywalker and if Kylo Ren finds resolve as a troubled character, we’re excited to see what the film has got for us. Who knows, I might even be a full-fledged after this. After all, don’t we all have the force in us?
