Before we start the festivities of the Miss Universe Philippines Coronation night, it’s important that we first recognize this year’s crown. In partnership with Jewelmer, Miss Universe Philippines unveiled the La Mer en Majesté Crown during the MUPH 2022 Gala Night at the Hilton Manila. During the Gala, all 32 candidates walked on the runway before the La Mer en Majesté was revealed. After all the pageant festivities, the crown was presented by no other than reigning Miss Universe Philippines titleholder, Beatrice Luigi Gomez. Joining her was National Director of Miss Universe Philippines, Shamcey Supsup.

Once the new crown was presented, everyone could tell the noticeable difference between the current and past ones. For one, the crown is shorter, but evidently more intricate in design. The La Mer en Majesté Crown also prides in the fact that its jewels are designed in a monochromatic fashion. Jewelmer and Miss Universe opted for a gold, white, and cream color palette for the crown. This is a new direction from the red, white, and blue colored jewels they usually integrate to the coronation crown. Aside from this, it is stated by the Jewelmer team that the main stone used for the crown is the golden South Sea pearl.

Jewelmer envisions the Miss Universe Philippines crown as an exquisite tribute to the vibrant culture and history of the Philippines, inspired by Jewelmer’s La Mer en Majesté collection. In French, when the word, “majesty” is used with that of the sea, it evokes respect and admiration for the water element and its many wondrous qualities. The sea is both artist and muse, paying tribute to its mystery and nurturing power.

In a public statement the Jewelmer team explained the reason for using the golden South Sea pearl as their stone of choice, “Shaped by the movement of the tides and colored by the rays of the sun, each golden South Sea pearl is a miracle–a symbol of purity, so rare that it was hailed as the Philippines’ National Gem. This exquisite crown is an homage to the majesty, the sea, for she is the queen of the elements.”

If you take a closer look at the crown, you’ll notice that the crown holds more than just one golden South Sea pearl. It features a total of 17 pearls. For one large pearl alone, the price costs up to $100,000 or PHP 5,246,000. Since the La Mer en Majesté Crown has a mix of large, medium, and small golden South Sea pearls. It’s safe to say that the price of crown goes above the $100,000 valuation.

This is nothing unusual in the pageant industry. Most crowns for the Miss Universe pageants are valued in the millions. Reigning Miss Universe, Harnaaz Kaur Sandhu’s crown is one of the most expensive Miss Universe crowns to date. The diamond covered Mouawad crown is estimated at $5,000,000. For every queen, comes a beautiful and expensive crown. It’s just a matter of who will be taking it this year.
