On Instagram, Billie Eilish captioned one of her lingerie photos, “Do whatever you want, whenever you want.” And, that’s exactly what she did. She dyed her hair platinum blonde and posed as a pin-up girl for British Vogue’s June 2021 issue. As expected, the internet went crazy for it, but why? Most performing artists do this anyway, right? Why is it a big deal when Billie Eilish does it? For those of you who have only known Eilish for her music, she has done so much more than just snagging a Grammy (like that were no big deal). The singer is also an advocate for body positivity and mental health, because she has personally experienced troubles with this in the past.

Since the beginning of her career, Eilish has constantly turned up to red carpet events and recordings in one particular style: baggy clothing. The reason for this is simple. She didn’t want anyone to see her figure, because she was conscious about her body image. In an interview with Glamour she says, “The reason I used to cut myself was because of my body. To be quite honest with you, I only started wearing baggy clothes because of my body.” Many women from around the world identified with Eilish. Thus, she became a source of inspiration for women who are on journey towards self-love.

That’s why it was truly surprising to see the young singer unrobe and pose in lingerie for British Vogue. It’s a testament to change, empowerment, and growth. And, we’re all here for it. To commemorate this event, we’re taking a trip down memory lane in Billie Eilish’s style evolution.

Monochromatic Fits
Billie cemented her queendom of color coordinated outfits when she visited SiriusXM Studios during the earlier years of her career. Her preferred silhouettes were baggy, but were not yet at the exaggerated level she’s known for. Instead, she would utilize a lot of layering when it came to her monochromatic looks.

The Human Gucci
If there’s one thing we know for certain, it’s that Billie Eilish loves her Gucci. Her most memorable Gucci moment to date was her red carpet look for the 63rd Grammy Awards. In the event, she wore head to toe Gucci. She even paired her outfit with a matching face mask, bucket hat, and manicured Gucci nails. Aside from Gucci, the singer has been spotted wearing Burberry, Louis Vuitton, Chanel, and MCM on the daily.

Lingerie Goddess
Billie’s cover shoot with British Vogue marks a transition for the singer. She’s ready to bring us new music paired with a new pair of thigh high stockings. We still hope to see her in an oversized Simone Rocha look, but for now we’ll take what she’s serving at the moment. “You shouldn’t try to be a person that your old self would like, and you shouldn’t try to be a person that your self is going to be. You should be exactly who you feel like you are and want to be in the moment. Otherwise, you’re going to go insane,” says Eilish.
