There came a point when piles of clothes and costumes that were used for shoots were too high, photographer Shaira Luna knew that a closet sale was something that needed to happen. And so began The Creatives’ Annual Closet Cleaning Sale.

“The sole purpose, honestly, was to reclaim closet space,” says Luna.  “I priced the items low to make sure everything would be taken. The first group sale was in 2015, where I was joined by just a few friends and stylists. Each year, more and more people from the industry would ask to join, and word started to spread about the great finds and creative energy during our sales.”

Celebrity stylists, fashion editors, photographers, creative directors, and set designers are just a few of the people who will be participating in the one-day event. Clothes, bags, shoes, accessories, and even props from their personal closets are up for grabs this Sunday, from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., at the Siren Studios (Studio 2 and 3) in Makati.

Sustainable Fashion

For Luna, sustainability in fashion was something she became aware of as her career progressed. Back then, she used thrifted clothes simply because they were affordable and one-of-a-kind. Later on, she  started using vintage garments in her photo shoots because they lent another layer to the characters.

“Nowadays, it’s great to see how more and more people are becoming mindful about what they purchase and put on, knowing that small changes can have a positive impact on the environment,” she shares.

Luna is delighted that this year’s sale has the biggest group and venue since they started. Majority of the sellers are celebrities and fashion stylists, who are letting go of designer pieces and closet staples. But having production and set designers in the upcoming line-up is what really makes it more exciting—almost everything you need to produce a fashion shoot will be on sale.

“While I don’t have many designer clothes, I will be selling some vintage dresses, dressy shoes that I never get to wear, and even recent Instagram store purchases that didn’t fit me well or were unused for shoots I bought them for,” says Luna.

The creatives who are part of the event include actress Dimples Romana and MEGA Magazine’s fashion director Ryuji Shiomitsu.

Siren Studios is located at 2227 Chino Roces Ave. Makati City
