Rosenthal Tee is no stranger to the ever evolving world of fashion. At the foundation of Rosenthal’s design values is her love of learning and exploring new techniques that will further improve her craft. She began her design journey at Istituto Marangoni with a Master’s Degree in Fashion Design Womenswear and graduated in 2013 with honors. She even delved into jewelry design and textile print design courses that further honed her skills, combining both the technical and creative aspects of design.

With almost a decade of experience in design, Rosenthal Tee continues to explore the boundaries of her design aesthetic but still keeping true to her love of the feminine form. We sat down with her to talk about her love for color and how it extends not only to her designs but also to her return to painting

MEGA: How has your aesthetic evolved from doing MEGA fashion week with us to today?

Rosenthal Tee: My aesthetic has definitely become more refined in terms of the silhouettes I’ve been creating because I do cater to a very customized market. One of the strongest takeaways from my last MEGA fashion week was in establishing a stronger sense of confidence in color mixing. There has also been an evolution in my use of laser cutting fabric techniques and motifs as well. Because I’ve always found plants as a source of inspiration, I’ve played more on using that as a strong reference in my custom ready to wear and evening wear pieces. You’ll definitely be able to tell easily that its a Rosenthal Tee piece because of my penchant for using leaves and vines and touches of shine in the work that we do at the studio.

M: You are one of the designers who loves color. What does color and prints bring to your designs?

RT: I always love making a statement, and definitely wearing color and combining it with unique prints is one of the best ways to do that. I’ve always thought of myself a wallflower growing up, but I grew in confidence because of what these vibrant injections in fashion and my time living in London has been able to do to my spirit. It can easily boost your sense of confidence and inject a sense of fun and joie de vivre that is so needed in these times!

M: How do your paintings and art reflect on your designs?

RT: My paintings are definitely an extension of this ongoing love story I have with color. I just have so much color in me that I need to share it! One of the earlier observations of the few people who I’ve shown my work to have actually noticed that I have preference for working with bigger canvases and triptychs. Perhaps because I just have so much to express. Before turning into fashion as a full time profession I was actually trained as a painter. Now that I’ve rediscovered my love for painting, and have had more time to introspect, I’ve been able to push out these very strong and vibrant color patterns and combinations that have been sitting in my head for the longest time. I am definitely enjoying my work on stretched canvas, which is really just another fabric at the end of the day, and experiment more with how I could creatively input that back into my custom ready to wear and evening wear work!

M: What is next for Rosenthal Tee?

RT: Once I’ve built a larger body of art work, I would definitely love to combine that into clothing. I’d like to be able to create colorful printed fabrics and see it translated not just by me, but by other fashion designers into their own fashion interpretations as well. Beyond this, I’d also like to further cement the presence of my bridal wear and evening wear for the days that we can all fully socialize again.
