Embrace Essential Hair Care As These Salons Welcome Us To Their Renewed Normal

After receiving the go signal from the government, the hair industry is now back on its feet. Welcoming us to their new normal, they are putting everyone’s safety in mind. But before we head to our favorite salons, here’s everything that we need to know.

The pandemic has really taken a great toll on the hair and beauty industry. As the government released IATF’s approval on the reopening of the hair industry, beauty salons and barbershops are finally permitted to provide haircut and other hair services yesterday, June 7, at 30% capacity in GCQ areas and half workforce in MGCQ areas. Meaning, we can finally pamper ourselves with the much-need and long overdue hair care including hair color and other treatments. Since hair care services require relatively close contact between the hair stylist and the client, these salons guarantee a safer space with strict protocols to still make us feel the comfort and relaxation for when we are having ourselves pampered.

However, you may still have questions on whether you can avail of all services, even the ones that would take hours to finish or the safety protocols that everyone has to follow. Thus, MEGA spoke to some of the most-trusted salons and hair experts in the metro and we’ve got details on their much awaited reopening. If you heard a hallelujah chorus, that was from our hair follicles celebrating this victory of self-care.

“As a committed partner to the industry, L’Oréal mobilized all its efforts worldwide to help the hairdressing community through these challenging times with the aim to reduce the impact on their business, ensure the safety of the community, and provide clear protocols for stylists and clients,” shares Luis Antonio Yanga, General Manager of L’Oréal Professionnel Products Division. L’Oréal opted for collaborations and industry meetings in order to move forward with the right health protocols and implementation plan.

Being at the forefront of fashion and beauty, MEGA has reached out to this particular industry affected by the business slowdown during lockdown. Following a relationship fostered by a most fruitful partnership for the recent MEGA Fashion Week, it was in fact MEGA who connected L’Oréal with DTI Secretary Ramon Lopez to expedite the return of beauty salons in mindful capacity and operations. Luis also notes on how the team focused on education through online classes focused cascade of technical knowledge for stylists, digital upskilling for new business streams for salon owners, and hygiene protocols with consumer safety communication for the entire industry.

Now that L’Oréal is ready to meet our hair needs safely, there will be a foot bath, sanitation, temperature, and health declaration check upon entry. The client’s personal items will be placed in a separate sanitary plastic bag. Hair tools will be sanitized after each use while towels and capes will be single use. All clients are required to wear masks just as how the hair stylists are practicing the same safety measures.

JURO Salon Exclusif

The hair geniuses behind JURO Salon Exclusif, Jude Hipolito and Rose Velasco who are L’Oréal Professionnel Philippines ambassadors as well, turned to Facebook Live to discuss “positivity” topics including sanitation and safety practices that they were preparing for JURO and online master classes in Precision Cutting and French Balayage Hair Coloring for L’Oréal.

While we must admit how JURO prepared effectively with FB Lives and online classes for their reopening, they even had a thorough disinfection to keep a clean and sanitized space, salon equipment, and tools. JURO had everything ready from PPEs, face mask, face shield, hair cap, aprons, Barbicide, UV, floor mat with disinfectant, thermal scanner, alcohol, hand wash, health checklist, to secured sanitary bags for the stylists and clients.

With two to three months of not having a decent salon hair care, you might be clueless on which hair service to get. These hair experts have great suggestions on what we can get during our first visit after such a long time.

  • A JURO precision haircut from master cutter, Jude Hipolito to get a new hair style, cut off the dry ends or correct a D.I.Y. cut gone wrong during lockdown.
  • A JURO hair color from master colorist, Rose Velasco to cover the grey hair or regrowth, tone the ends, and get a fresh, new hair color or fix a D.I.Y. hair color during the ECQ period.
  • A JURO deep conditioning nano treatment for a customized hair and scalp treatment using nano technology, which is definitely a must-have professional hair treatment after months of hair neglect.

JURO Salon Exclusif is located at Kensington Place, #2D, 1st Avenue corner 29th St., Bonifacio Global City, Taguig City. For more information on JURO Salon Exclusif, you can visit JURO Salon Exclusif on Facebook and @jurosalonexclusif on Instagram.

Culture Salon MNL

Valuing safety above all, the health and safety protocols begin with Culture Salon’s hair stylists. Temperature will be checked while foot baths and alcohol stations are installed. Culture Salon places their disinfecting equipment like UV Sterilizer in visible areas to remind the clients that each tool are clean and sanitized after single use. For a more hygienic and safe practice, clients won’t be sharing cutting capes. Either they bring their cutting capes at home or keep it in assigned disinfected lockers for their next visit.

A lot of external factors might have brought a negative impact on our hair such as flaky scalp. Hence, Culture Salon suggests to undergo hair treatments depending on the condition and state of the hair. “Balancing the PH-level of the scalp would make sure that we won’t go too oily or to dry which causes dandruffs,” shares Jim Ross, owner of Culture Salon. “Dryness and damage should be addressed and plant-based treatments would be the best solution to revive the natural state of the hair.”

I’m pretty sure a lot of us are excited to regain a new hair color. Jim tells us to consider the right hair dye and going for a healthier option or a naturally derived product is absolutely advisable.

Culture Salon MNL is located at 9th Avenue corner, 30th St., Bonifacio Global City, Taguig City. For more information on Culture Salon MNL, you can visit www.culturesalonmnl.com or @culturesalonmnl on Instagram.

The Color Bar

“With the rise of the pandemic, I revisited our guidelines and made it stricter—disinfecting every possible surface in the salon,” shares Joseph “JOF” Fantone, Owner of The Color Bar. In their measures to keep a safer beauty salon, they soak surfaces for 10 minutes using Quaternary Ammonium, a disinfectant that kills unwanted viruses and germs. And as advised, everyone has to follow proper wearing of masks, physical distancing, scanning of temperature, and sanitation.

Inevitable 3-4 inches of regrowth may come unbearable for some, especially those with grey hair. For those who hurriedly booked for coloring services for both touch-ups and style now that it’s allowed, JOF suggests that we finish it off with a nourishing hair treatment that suits your hair type.

The Color Bar has branches at Forbes Town, Bonifacio Global City and Estancia Mall, Capitol Commons. For more information on The Color Bar, you can visit @thecolorbarph on Instagram.
