With the coronation night just three weeks away, Pinky Webb of CNN Philippines has asked the ultimate question to our beauty queen: “What can Rabiya Mateo offer as our representative to Miss Universe?” Speaking calmly and confidently, which may be a show of how hard she’s been training, Mateo answered, “it’s my heart and my time because I really want to be somebody who’s involved in the community. I don’t want to be remembered as the face of Ms. Universe Philippines but as a phenomenal woman who actually did something for her country.” Earning praise from Webb, she shares how former beauty queens Pia Wurtzbach, Catriona Gray, and MJ Lastimosa have also reminded her to be herself and to enjoy the journey. When asked about her national costume, she reveals “it’s going to be sexy but empowering at the same time.”

Style Trend To Crop: Body-Hugging Lace

A modern classic, lace should be in every woman’s arsenal for its romantic and ultra-feminine look that can easily go from casual to formal. Created by Mikee Andrei, Aces and Queens head stylist and fashion designer, Mateo’s version of a little white dress is more sophisticated with its entwined lace. The breathability and sheerness of the lace gave it an effortless feel while the sweetheart neckline and body-hugging silhouette added the right amount of sensual detail. “To be phenomenal is to know that no ensemble can fully define one’s strength or capability—it is her conviction in taking new strides and that she is able to empower that matters,” says Andrei.

To finish off her look, Mateo stepped into a pair of sparkly peep-toe heels reminiscent of Cinderella’s glass slipper from local shoewear brand ERIN and regal diamond-crested floral hoops from LVNA By Drake Dustin
