Leather has always signified heritage and luxury. For decades, it’s been regarded as a precious commodity that not everyone could easily afford, especially in the world of fashion. From bags, shoes, and accessories, leather is seen as a status of wealth and can even help any of its consumers to bring out that so-called regal air.

Since fashion has always been adept at adapting to the changing times, the COVID-19 pandemic and the global economic recession is definitely no exception in our industry. Several fashion brands have made it a point to step up and do their part in various ways they can contribute, but more than that they also made sure to innovate their products that could also be deemed perhaps as the new essential.

One local leather brand that has heeded the call is FINO leatherwear. After its successful leather mask line called La Mascherina, the brand is proud to announce an exciting offshoot, La Mascherina Limitado. The new series is the brainchild of FINO’s fashion consultant, Luis Espiritu, who envisioned a luxurious take on the utilitarian mask.

To create this ingenious face mask, the homegrown brand used three layers of thermo-welded filters behind a shell mask made from exotic patterned cowhide. By marrying the true essence of function and style, Limitado is designed not just to protect, but also to lift our spirits in these trying times with international Filipina model Hannah Locsin front and center of its campaign titled, Unbound.

Luis and FINO owners Rommel and Rose Ann Bautista were unanimous with their choice for Limitado’s image model. For them, Hannah Locsin exemplifies FINO’s ethos. The international model—who has been getting media mileage due to her runway and commercial modeling stints in fashion capitals—has her own strong sense of individual style yet she comes off as real and approachable.

Perhaps we may well assume that’s why the Limitado debuts with Espiritu’s Vinta collection. With the boat’s signature vibrant geometric patterns seen in the new edition masks, it impeccably balances the gravitas of the luxurious croc and snakeskin-print leathers, as well as other top-grade hides.

Behind the vibrant patterns, colors and textures is a reusable and washable filter developed by Rommel himself. It is made from high quality foam, which is thermally-fused between two soft nylon fabric liners for added comfort. “I’m a surgeon and a biker,” Rommel explains. “So, these masks are nothing new to me, and I understand their utility. The filters that we use can’t be penetrated easily by microbes.”

This proves that Limitado’s Vinta collection is apt for the times with reusable filters that reflect the brand’s conscientious slant. The bold patterns convey strength, while the colors evoke a sense of hope. These are Limitado’s values which you can take with you while navigating the new normal.
