Piolo Pascual is Going Back to His First Love

“I can finally check it off my bucket list!” says Piolo. Even with his stellar career as an actor and producer, the eternal heartthrob proves to the world that he indeed can do it all as he is returning to live performance

Last February 14, MEGA Entertainment spent Valentine’s day working without complaints and full of glee because it was with the one and only Piolo Pascual. As usual, the dashing debonair and A-list actor swept his guests away with his presence at the intimate contract signing of his new passion project, Ibarra. Piolo shared that the musical is an homage to his performance arts roots where he started his journey in acting.

“My first love is theater. I started out in theater [at] Teatro Tomasino in UST and I have always wanted to go back. The proper timing and schedule were arranged. I am a big fan of Noli Me Tángere,” Piolo revealed that he even taught the book in school. We jokingly told him how we wondered if his students got distracted by his looks, to which he said that hopefully, his passion for Noli Me Tángere was enough to spread his teachings. “I taught it in high school. I always admired the role of Crisostomo Ibarra. I wanted to do a musical [about him] because it is a good reminder for the Filipinos about independence and revolution.”

Piolo even revealed that he had to cancel some commitments this year to block off the dates for the musical. He is also about to go on a three-month rigorous vocal training because he will be singing for the majority of the play. “Yes, indeed—more than 90%! It’s something I have not done before [that’s why] I’m excited, and it is [outside] my comfort zone. I want to do my best.”

Ibarra will run from June 8 to 18 of this year at the GSIS Theatre. Piolo is also returning to Netflix after the very successful film with Alessandra de Rossi, My Amanda. “Netflix acquired it even before we started shooting. The show I am working on is an eight-episode series [and] it is also in partnership with Cornerstone so Sam Milby will also be joining. It will be Sam, Alessandra, and myself. It is a nice story about cooking and culinary, and we are almost halfway done.” After Flower of Evil’s success last year, Piolo also adds that he has a movie in the works, saying, “It is a period film! It is GOMBURZA. I am also doing a concert tour.”

When asked about a possible series in the near future, this was the update we got from Piolo: “I am awaiting the pitch of ABS-CBN. Hopefully, mid-this year, I get to do something again after Ibarra.”
