From impulse purchases to samples you can’t say no to, it can be hard to keep track of your growing pile of products. Thankfully, we have Marie Kondo, author of The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up and star of the trending Netflix show, ‘Tidying Up With Marie Kondo’ to guide us. Here are ways you can apply the KonMari method to your beauty cabinet:

1. Clean in one go
Many of us might take our time when cleaning our spaces. To Kondo, cleaning should be one big event, a dramatic transformation. “Tidy a little a day and you’ll be tidying forever,” she says.
2. Throw out products that you don’t need
Kondo believes that first of all, you should take out your belongings to get rid of unnecessary things, saying, “Keep only those things that speak to your heart. Then take the plunge and discard all the rest. By doing this, you can reset your life and embark on a new lifestyle.” Doing this at the beginning will certainly speed up your sorting process.
3. Store by category
“The essence of effective storage is this: designate a spot for every last thing you own,” Kondo says in her book. Thankfully, when it comes to beauty products, this should be a little easier. You can easily group together your skincare essentials, makeup, hair products and products for the body—all of which can be further sub-categorized.
4. Take them out where you can see them
In line with #3, it helps to put your products in a place where you can easily see and have access to them. Come to think of it, it would be difficult to remember to use a certain item if they’re hidden at the back of your drawer.
5. Edit when you can
Once you’ve got the KonMari method down, staying organized shouldn’t be too difficult. As the days pass, it will be easier to see which products truly have a place in your heart.
