Here are some memorable moments in Met Gala 2021 that you shouldn’t miss

Stars came together for the biggest fashion event of the year at Met Gala 2021, with the theme, “In America: A Lexicon of Fashion,” which embodies joy, rebellion, and nostalgia. The personalities in attendance have been given almost two years to prepare for their red carpet looks that’s why fans all over the world have anticipated nothing less from what they are about to see today.

Apart from the looks that our favorite celebrities served, there are a lot of moments that are as remarkable. From surprise attendees to unexpected outfits, here are some of the highlights from Met Gala 2021:

Anna Wintour as the honorary chairman

Anna Wintour, Vogue’s editor-in-chief, and the honorary chairwoman of the Gala event since 1995  arrived in floral gown by Oscar dela Renta. According to her, she wants guests to have fun and enjoy dressing up again at tonight’s all-vaxxed, all-masked Met Gala

The co-chairs

The co-chairs of the evening arrived in head-turning looks. Timothée Chalamet arrived in a satin tuxedo jacket with black lapels, paired with white sweats and Converse shoes.

Billie Eilish who paid homage to Marilyn Monroe with her platinum bob, nude lips, and Oscar de la Renta gown.

Naomi Osaka, a Japanese-Haitian tennis champion, incorporates Koi fish prints in her Louis Vuitton attire as a nod to her Japanese heritage.

Lastly, Amanda Gorman went for a symbolic Vera Wang dress inspired by the Statue of Liberty.

Stella Mccartney’s present

According to Anna Wintour, Stella Mccartney hired Brooklyn United as a present to hype the crowd since she wasn’t able to attend tonight’s event.

Gymnast Nia Dennis showed off her skills in a Stella McCartney unitard with a marching band behind her.

A touch of Filipino at the Gala

Filipino photographer Martin Romero posted on his Instagram account a series of Alicia Keys photos on the red carpet. He shared in his caption that the Empire State of Mind singer wore a custom AZ Factory gown that was designed by a fellow Filipino, Norman Rene De Vera who was not able to come because of pandemic restrictions so Martin captured this moment for the designer.

Kpop queens

Ahead of the Gala, Rose already made headlines when she was spotted in NYC after doing a fitting with YSL. Fans speculated that she’s will make an appearance in Met Gala, and true enough, she arrived in an elegant in a custom little black dress with a white statement bow from Saint Laurent. She walked the red carpet with the fashion house’s creative director Anthony Vaccarello.

Turns out that Rose isn’t the first female Kpop artist to step in the Met Gala red carpet, but one of the first female Kpop stars since CL made a surprise appearance at the event as well. CL wore a denim Alexander Wang piece which depicts the theme of this year’s Met Gala since denim is one of the representative materials of American fashion.

Looks that made a statement

The night also became a place to make a statement. For her first appearance at the Met Gala, representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez made a political statement. The Democratic-Socialist congresswoman wore a white gown by Brother Vellies, splashed with the political slogan across the back that says, “Tax The Rich”.

Carolyn Maloney’s colorful gown included sashes that say “Equal rights for women,” and she carried a bright green purse that read “ERA YES.” The bold white, green and purple shades are inspired by suffragette colors.

Model Cara Delevingne also made a statement with her top which said “peg the patriarchy.”

Lil Nas three times golden

When it’s your first time to attend Met Gala, you make it count, and singer-rapper, Lil Nas X’s just knew exactly what to do. The rapper wore a dramatic ensemble custom-designed by Donatella Versace that was a reminiscent of a Matryoshka doll.

The first outfit reveal, he wore an ornate cape that was covered in intricate gold beading, the second included a gold-plated suit of armor, and the last was a bodycon covered in crystals and Versace’s signature house print.

Kim Kardashian got an A+ in understanding the “face mask” assignment. The Skims designer wore head-to-toe black Balenciaga designed by Kanye West.

Fashionably late

Rihanna trended hours before she arrived, and finally the wait was over for everybody as the queen came in fashionably late in a Balenciaga black couture gown.
