The rumors have now been confirmed: there is going to be a live-action Barbie movie and Margot Robbie is playing the role of the iconic doll. Warner Bros. and Mattel are teaming up to bring the doll into the silver screen through a live-action version. Not only is Robbie slated to play Barbie, but she's also set to co-produce the film under LuckyChap Entertainment. "I'm so honored to take on this role and produce a film that I believe will have a tremendously positive impact on children and audiences worldwide," Robbie shares in an interview with Variety. "Playing with Barbie promotes confidence, curiosity, and communication throughout a child’s journey to self-discovery. Over the brand’s almost 60 years, Barbie has empowered kids to imagine themselves in aspirational roles from a princess to president." Details about the film are yet to be revealed. Meanwhile, Robbie is set to start filming for Birds of Prey (And the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn). She is also nominated for Best Performance by an Actress for her role in I, Tonya as Tonya Harding, a controversial American figure skater. Seeing as she's done an amazing job in her previous and recurring roles, it's exciting what she has in store for us as our ultimate childhood icon.
