This year’s Met Gala speaks volumes about the gild of glamour from the past to the present. And this is Louis Vuitton’s say.
From the emergence of vlogs on unboxing luxury items to the resurgence of the debates between the old money versus the nouveau rich, the take on opulence is catching up to today’s time. The Gilded Age, though coined by author Mark Twain in the late 19th century, is still relevant up to now though in different forms.
The choice of Louis Vuitton’s artistic director of women’s collections Nicholas Ghesquière to uphold the house’s circular creativity can be considered as a commentary on why and how gilded glamor is prevalent today in our society. According to Ghesquière in his interview with Vogue, “There is no better feeling than to know your designs will live on. While my role as an artistic director is to constantly create, the chance to return to previous collections and designs for this year’s Met Gala was joyful.”

Emma Chamberlain
The Internet star wore a beige crop top from the Fall-Winter 2018 Collection to match with her white skirt and gladiator sandals. This whole look is a nod to the contemporary take on gilded glamor, to which Chamberlain understands as a booming content creator and personality.
Cynthia Erivo
The award-winning performer chose a headpiece made from the house’s fabric cut-offs and reused for Erivo’s crowning glory. According to creative director and stylist Jason Bolden in his interview with Vanity Fair, the whole look was inspired by the time “Black women were told to cover up” during the institution of Tignon Law in the late 18th century. Meanwhile, her long, white, lace gown and feathered cape was from the Spring-Summer 2022 collection.
Emma Stone
The actress stayed in theme with the revival of pieces from the past. Stone was clad in the same custom, white dress that she wore for her wedding reception. She added more bling to her whole look with diamond and white gold rings from the Louis Vuitton High Jewelry Collection.
Hoyeon
Meanwhile, actress and model Jung Hoyeon sported a blue and black color scheme for her whole look with a cut-out dress from Louis Vuitton’s 2017 Cruise collection and black leather high boots from the Fall-Winter 2022 collection. To add more pizzazz, she added accessories from the Louis Vuitton High Jewelry Collection.
Renate Reinsve
The Worst Person in the World actress made the embroidered cape from the Cruise 2020 collection the statement piece of her outfit, pairing it with leather pants from the Fall-Winter 2014 collection and a sleek ‘do.
Bradley Cooper
The actor opted for a wool and satin black tuxedo with a white cotton shirt underneath. To top it all off, he wore black leather boots.
Eileen Gu
The Olympic gold medalist stunned in the Met Gala carpet with her all-black ensemble from the Maison. The dress was from the Spring-Summer 2017 Ready-To-Wear collection, while the gloves and belt were part of the Cruise 2020 collection. The black, suede boots from the Spring-Summer 2020 collection completed Eileen’s getup.
Eve Jobs
Just like Eileen, the equestrian slash model wore a floor length dress from the the 2017 Spring Ready-To-Wear collection.
Sophie Turner and Joe Jonas
The couple wore color matching looks as they walked together on the carpet. Joe Jonas wore a bicolor tail jacket and a long, white lace top from the Spring-Summer 2022 collection. Meanwhile, Sophie Turner gave more attitude to the black, archival Cruise 2016 collection dress with her bold choice of makeup.
Phoebe Dynevor
The Bridgerton star relived her time in the series with the reinterpreted black, tulle gown embroidered with crystals and paillettes from the house’s Spring-Summer 2022 collection.
Chloë Grace-Moretz
The white inner silk short shirt from the Spring-Summer 2018 collection as well as the vinyl pants from the Cruise 2022 collection made Grace-Moretz’s statement archival piece from the Spring-Summer 2018 Ready-To-Wear collection stand out.
Gemma Chan
