Known for its exquisite design and expert leather craftsmanship, Louis Vuitton proves to be on the lead when it comes to design innovation. Launching its made-to-order service in Manila, the French luxury brand is now offering bespoke bags topped off with exotic skins.
A Louis Vuitton exotic skin bag is unlike any ordinary bag. Having gone through a meticulous process–from finding the most suitable exotic skin to ensuring the color and lustre of each surface matches–this is the maison’s most expensive offering.
According to Louis Vuitton, “it takes 350 different steps to create a bag in exotic leather from the selection of the skin to its final control. Four hours are necessary for the making of a Capucines’ handle [alone].”
Featuring six types of leather in the collection–crocodile, alligator, python, lizard, ostrich, and stingray–the creation of the bags demand the most specialised care and attention at every stage.
Louis Vuitton selects only the finest skin as soon as they are tanned. And only at this point does the destiny of each skin is determined: what design of bag best suits the natural pattern of scales, and what color and finish awaits its surface.
Each of the exotic skin is picked ensuring a continuity of scale pattern at the point where the edges of each bag meet. To illustrate, the Louis Vuitton City Steamer used the most exclusive and precious croc belly skin at the front and back, while its tail was utilized for the sides.
The storied French house also shared that “working with exotics is an adventure itself, a thrilling exploration of new ways–through colors, treatments, and innovations–to excite the imagination.”
The Louis Vuitton exotic bags are available in a permanent palette of 25 specially formulated colors, with further options available seasonally. The collection is now available in Louis Vuitton Greenbelt.
