LOOK: OMEGA Unveils Chronograph Watch For America’s Cup

To celebrate its role as the official timekeeper of America’s Cup, OMEGA has launched a race-ready timepiece that delivers extraordinary precision under pressure.

Following the successful launch of the ultimate yacht watch last year with Swiss competitive sailing team Alinghi, OMEGA is back with another timepiece that is set to make waves for all yacht enthusiasts. The month marks the 36th running of the prestigious yacht race, America’s Cup. Ever since 1951, the race has stood as the pinnacle of the sport having all the world-class challengers compete for the coveted trophy.

But while America’s Cup has long been in the scene, OMEGA also shares a longstanding history with it, too. Because for the third time since the cup was established, the luxury Swiss watchmaker has once again been named its official timekeeper—a noteworthy feat for horologists. In fact, OMEGA has even crafted a limited edition Seamaster and Speedmaster models back in 1995.

Coincidentally, the Biel-based brand release another special model, this time based on its robust diving chronograph, with multiple new features. Meet the new Omega Seamaster Diver 300M America’s Cup Chronograph.

Upon looking at the majestic craftsmanship put into the timepiece, one will notice that it’s actually a fitting tribute to the prestigious cup that was presented by Prada. It has this soft-touch rubber pusher, ergonomically designed to work efficiently in the wet and stylishly picked out in red and blue. Hence, the athlete would get a better handle on the watch in high swells.

Apart from that, it has a new chronograph lock-system, quick-change strap, and water grip pushers. The 44 mm chronograph has a blue ceramic dial and bezel ring, which features a white enamel diving scale. Then its laser-engraved wave-pattern dial includes a “regatta countdown indicator ring,” which features an hour disc underneath the subdial, as well as a small seconds hand inspired by the shape of a boat hull. The central seconds chronograph hand carries an America’s Cup on the counterweight.

But honestly, the pièce de résistance is OMEGA’s exclusive chrono-lock system that secures the chronograph functions when needed—a must when marking time on the water, because sailing at high speeds leaves no room for error. And as with all great commemorative watches, the event and year are clearly marked and highlighted in bold. On the Alveol shaped case back, engravings filled with blue lacquer spell out “36th America’s Cup” and “Auckland 2021.”
