Kim Soo Hyun returns to Manila and reveals his future plans and what made him fall in love with Filipinos.
It’s nearly quite impossible not to fall in love with the talent and good looks of Korean actor Kim Soo Hyun. He’s most known for his heart-tugging performance as Moon Gang-Tae in the drama, It’s Okay to Not Be Okay which gained him an international following and other TV series like My Love from the Star, Dream High, and The Thieves. He is one of the most recognizable Korean actors today. While the actor has visited the country five years ago, Filipino fans can thank Bench, Filipino clothing and lifestyle brand, for bringing him back and making him their latest ambassador a.k.a #GlobalBenchSetter. And as charming as he is on screen, we can attest that he is the exact same way in real life during the “One Extraordinary Day With Kim Soo Hyun” exclusive press conference.
While in real life Kim Soo Hyun is an easy-go-lucky guy, the characters he takes on are quite the opposite. From characters in murder thrillers to healing dramas, we asked what other kinds of roles his considering next. “I am not actually into a character that I want to try, but I can maybe try being an antagonist. Other fans are also wanting me to try medical drama but it doesn’t mean that I am going to do that. I will have to review first,” he answers and asks for the fan’s support as he tries to become a better actor as he ages.
With the Korean entertainment and film industry also gaining global recognition and prestigious awards these recent years such as Bong Joon-ho’s “Parasite” and Netflix’s “Squid Game”, Soo Hyun had to think long and hard when we asked him if he’ll ever consider joining international projects but no need to worry because he answered that he is more than open to it if the opportunity comes.
“It’s a very good question. The platforms, the OTT (over-the-top services) are available everywhere which allows viewers around the globe to view different series of different countries. As a viewer and as an actor who also makes the show, I feel very surprised and amazed by how technology has developed. As for having a role for an international series, I also want to have a drama series or film that I’d like to explore.”
If you’re also wondering what his best style tip is, Soo Hyun has the perfect witty answer. “[On my way] from the airport… I was seeing the billboards of Bench. If you dress exactly the same as the billboards, I guess you will look great,” he says with a matching eye smile. And if that didn’t get the whole room swooning, the actor shared what he missed about Filipinos. “The eyes of the fans, not just the fans, but generally the Filipino people, they got the eyes of the angel…and the eyes have power, so I believe I miss them the most.
