Inspired by the house archives, KENZO’s Fall/Winter 2022 collection captures heritage elements with a modern, floral twist.
Lush poppies bloom in KENZO’s recently launched Fall/Winter collection, and we suddenly recall the vibrant floral prints that late founder Kenzo Takada often used in his designs. Flowers radiated across Takada’s collections as current artistic director Nigo reintroduced the motif with such refreshing simplicity.
So what are the floral prints on the collection?
Nigo interpreted the Poppy Print, originally designed by Kenzo Takada, by incorporating his contemporary codes and understanding of his Japanese heritage. Poppies are splashed across the pieces with vibrant hues, while simple colors fill the negative space—a combination of maximalism and minimalism. It’s a colorful selection that consists of workwear, tailoring, dresses, and skirts that are cast with combinations of vivid red, orange, green, and blue. The result is a collection that is inclusive and genderless. Nigo continues to lead the brand to a bolder venture and a step further into the future.
The denim line beautifully captures the spirit of the new KENZO collection. A mix of different cultural influences combined with hints of retro and enhanced by the embroidered iconic Poppy design, the line is a work-style selection that embraces functionality and originality. You can easily pair it with a white tee and a simple pair of trousers. But if you’re looking for a head-turner outfit, opt for a denim on denim outfit with a pop of color for your top.
Inspired by the Archives
With Nigo’s interpretation of Takada’s original design, poppies appear in large-scale all over the pieces, bringing a touch of freshness to the collection. You can style these pieces with some neutrals for a clean, balanced look; or by wearing all-around print ensemble for a statement outfit; or by pairing them with the denims from the collection!
