Any ardent K-drama fan will surely relate to the fact that sometimes 16 episodes or even an extended 20-episode season are just not enough. There are still questions left hanging, doors unopened and more kilig moments bound to happen. 

If you know this feeling, then you’re also surely familiar with the bliss that comes with receiving news of a confirmed follow-up season of your fave K-drama. The anticipation, hype and elation all boil over.

Squid Game 

456 people who are hellbent on paying their crippling debt are sent to an unknown island where they play children’s  games to win a massive sum of money that can turn their life 180°. Who’s the puppeteer behind this cruel ploy? No one truly knows for sure. 

What we know about the K-Drama’s 2nd season: 

In an interview with KBS, Director Hwang Dong Hyuk expressed that he is currently in the midst of discussions with Netflix about not only the confirmed second season, but also a potential third. He also shared that the core plot line will focus on Seong Gi Hun unraveling the mysteries regarding the organization behind the game.

Work Later, Drink Now 

Based on the webcomic, “Soolkkundoschicheonyeodeul,” the K-drama revolves around three friends who are all single women in their 30’s. They traverse through life’s circumstances together one drink at a time—specifically at night, after work. 

What we know about the K-Drama’s 2nd season: 

The original cast composed of Lee Sun Bin, Han Sun Hwa, Apink’s Jung Eun Ji and Super Junior’s Choi Siwon will be reprising their roles. The quick confirmation of the 2nd season came after the fans’ eager anticipation for a continuation of the story. The heartwarming and comedic plot will mostly be the same, where the beloved trio will continue to carry out their life’s philosophy of taking life one bottle at a time after work.

Yumi’s Cells 

Based on a webtoon of the same name, the drama is an interesting take on the portrayal of the emotions of an ordinary office worker called Yumi. The story is wittily and charmingly told through the perspective of her adorable-looking brain cells—of which are controlling her every thought, feeling and corresponding action. 

This is the first ever South Korean drama that featured a mixed 3D animation and live-action format. 

What we know about the K-Drama’s 2nd season:  

The next season is all about showcasing the growth and development of the different characters. Writer Song Jae Jung also shared that in lieu of the lovey dovey theme that the first season sported, the plot will become more dynamic. However, fans can still expect romance tropes, especially with the anticipated relationship between Yoo Babi and Yumi

D.P. 

Based on the webcomic, “D.P.: Gaeui Nal, the story takes place in the year 2014. It showcases the ugly nature of the South Korean military environment—in likes of hazing, bullying, crab mentality, and being at the mercy of superiors. The drama revolves around the D.P. (Deserter Pursuit) team responsible for tracking down and capturing military personnel who have gone A.W.O.L. from their mandatory service. 

What we know about the K-Drama’s 2nd season: 

Bagging a spot as one of the New York Times Best International Shows of 2021, the hit series is expected to pick up where it left off. Meaning, the story will be dealing with the messy consequences at the end of the first season. The same cast made of Jung Hae in, Koo Kyo Hwan, Kim Sung Kyun, Son Seok Koo and more will be returning. 

Production is currently on-going. The release date can be expected to be before the end of the year or early 2023.
