Jo Malone London translates stories of rituals, ceremonies, and local traditions through its Cologne Intense collection. “Most of the scents we create are quintessentially British and find inspiration in British landscapes, traditions, and ingredients, but with Cologne Intense, we allow ourselves to find inspiration from further afield,” Global Head of Fragrance Céline Roux said in an exclusive press release. Now, the brand elevated the range through new in-store and packaging visuals that are more true to what the scent truly represents. Revisiting the first chapter of the scent series
Jo Malone Cologne Intense’s history impressively harked back 10 years ago with its first format Oud and Bergamot, which is inspired by the Middle East. “It combined the nobility and enveloping scent of oud with the brightness of bergamot to create a fragrance that ended up becoming one of our most beloved scents,” Roux shared. “Since then, we’ve been all over the world in search of inspiring traditions and ingredients, creating a whole range of rich and sensual fragrances.”
Every iteration embodies a sense of mystery and discovery in scent form. “Whether we’re working with oud, vanilla, jasmine, or hibiscus as key ingredients, all of our Cologne Intense fragrances have a really warm, sensual, and mouthwatering dimension that draws you to them. That feeling is at the heart of the Cologne Intense experience,” Roux noted.
Exploring the Cologne Intense library
Cologne Intense is often defined as a collection of alluring, powerful scents inspired by faraway lands, captivating rituals, and treasured ingredients. According to Roux, “Each time we create a new Cologne Intense, we are inspired as much by experiences as we are by ingredients. Cologne Intense has the power to transport you to different times and places.”
The line includes olfactory poetries like Oud and Bergamot, Cypress and Grapevine, Myrrh and Tonka, Velvet Rose and Oud, Tuberose Angelica, Dark Amber and Ginger Lily, Vetiver, and Golden Vanilla, and Jasmine Sambac and Marigold.
Introducing the new visual interpretation
Jo Malone London recently introduced a new treatment for the collection’s bottle design. “The ingredients that go into the fragrances are often rich and rare, so this is reflected in the new bottle design, which makes use of deep, warm colors that call to mind precious stones and jewels,” Global Head of Creative Wandjina revealed the inspiration behind the packaging.
Apart from that, the brand realigned its image displays to narrate the story of the scents. “We’ve tried to create entire landscapes with our new images, beckoning the viewer to come closer and explore the exotic world of mystery and luxury that Cologne Intense represents,” said Wandjina. “Above all, the imagery is sensory because that’s what Cologne Intense is all about—deep feelings of allure and intensity, as much in its look and feel as in the olfactive profiles of the fragrances themselves.”
