Ivana Alawi’s Role Of A Lifetime

The internet’s current obsession—and MEGA cover star—gets candid about her future plans

For someone who’s made a living just by being herself, Ivana Alawi is very good at playing a role she’s never imagined herself playing before. During the MEGA cover shoot, she’s tasked to play a robot, one part-Femme Bot and one part Ex-Machina-inspired. She’s clad in chrome armor, platinum thigh-high boots and a variety of silver-colored creations that are part princess warrior, part Judy-Jetson. Many are so used to seeing her as herself on YouTube that we forget she’s figured successfully in shows such as Ang Probinsyano and Sino Ang Maysala?: Mea Culpa.

Acting is still something she would like to revisit again, but for the time-being, Ivana Alawi’s role as content creator is suiting her just fine.

“I miss acting and I really want to go back, but again, with the pandemic, it’s really hard na hindi ako ma-pra-praning on set. Kasi di ba may ka-partner ka—sometimes magkalapit kayo na magkalapit. Nakakapraning, especially with all the people around,” she says.

What she does want to do soon is start her own business, a skincare line that would empower women to become comfortable and confident in their own skin.

Whenever I wear bikinis, I get so many messages and comments na ‘buti pa siya nakakapag-flaunt!’ I always believe in empowering other women. My skincare is going to be somewhat related to that—to love yourself and embrace your skin and alagaan mo talaga.

When asked what else she wants to achieve, Ivana doesn’t miss a beat, quipping: “Wala talaga. I just want to be a housewife and have my own business.”
