Strong. Bold. Statement-making. When it comes to beauty, the independent woman doesn’t shrink from the spotlight. For this year’s Mega Millennial Ball, extraordinary fashion and beauty come together to celebrate Independence Day, the New PH, and an iconic designer—a true artist—Furne One.
Makeup artist Jigs Mayuga and hairstylists Lourd Ramos worked closely with One to create these original beauty looks that serve, not only complement One’s intricately embellished, haute couture creations but also to make a statement about the relationship between fashion, culture and the spirit of the Filipino people. The makeup takes its cue from one of the strongest trends of the year, graphic liner. Mayuga stuck to an inky black shade to give sharp contrast to the distinctly feminine silhouette and enchanting shimmer of One’s crystal embellished gowns. “The focus of this look is a strong graphic liner with an emphasis on the outer corners of the eyes using black gel eyeliner and false lashes,” he says. “The brows are lightened with concealer or kept bare to draw attention to the eye makeup.” Skin is sculpted and golden, but kept translucent. To keep the focus on the daring eye, the lips are clean and topped with gloss. For the look, Mayuga used BYS Black Magic Eyeliner, Liquid Illuminator Elixir, Peach Lip Oil and Velvet Lipstick in Teddy.
For the hair, Ramos provided two styles, using rope-like braids to give the models a warrior woman vibe. “It’s called ‘discipline with arts’—directional braids and shaped-sectioned braids that represent pure love and passion for fashion!” says Ramos. The first look, made up of tightly coiled braids was inspired by “railroads and tracks,” while the second one features soft tendrils and an offbeat shape, which, according to Ramos, describes the changing times of fashion.
Beautiful, defiant and thoroughly modern, this is beauty for the new millennia.
