For as long as I could remember, I have never lived without a planner. The types of planners I get may change throughout the years, but it has always been a need for my Type A personality. If you relate to these sentiments, then you would know how important it is to find the perfect planner. However, perfect is definitely subjective. Some of you may opt for a bullet journal and some may even prefer a planner with a bountiful amount of bells and whistles. Whichever of the two you may be, we’ve got a proposition for you– digital planners. Think about it. If you have a spare tablet lying around or space on your existing gadget, then why not? Here are the five reasons why you should make the switch to digital.

digital planner

1st Reason: It’s sustainable
For this reason alone, you should highly consider making the switch to digital. According to The World Counts’ statistics, “Paper accounts for around 26% of total waste at landfills.” In addition to this, the process of recycling used paper is not as easy as it sounds. The paper business uses up a lot of energy and resources from the planet, so it’s best to only use paper when absolutely necessary. Opting to go digital would reduce the need to buy a 365-paged paper notebook.

2nd Reason: It’s a lot more organized
When using apps like GoodNotes or Notability, users have the option to use links on their digital planners. Yup, you heard that right— links. You wouldn’t need to bookmark your digital planners, because they’re already bookmarked for you. You can easily switch through dates, weeks, and months by clicking on the timeline you want to visit. Many digital planner developers have elevated the experience by making their products extremely user-friendly. Just make sure that the planner you’ll be purchasing states that it uses links. Some developers create a non-link version of their products for those who’d like a more realistic experience.

3rd Reason: It’s convenient and portable
The one thing I didn’t like about my paper planner was that it was so hard to bring around. I would write down my agenda on my planner and duplicate the appointments on my virtual calendar. I did this, so I could look at my schedule throughout the day without having to bring my planner around. With a digital planner, you can access your schedule through your phone, tablet, and laptop easily. You’ll be able to look back at your schedule anytime and anywhere you are.

4th Reason: You can back it up
There are times when I spill either water or coffee on planner, which would lead to the smearing of my handwriting. When a tragic event like this takes place, it could take away all your memories and plans in an instant. There are no undos, back-ups, or copy-pastes. You have to live through the product of your own clumsiness. On the other hand, if you opt for a digital planner, you’ll be able to back-up and save previous work on the cloud. You’ll never have to think twice about placing a liquid beside your planner again.

5th Reason: The visual appeal
Unlike paper planners, digital planners have the ability to completely erase a mistake you’ve written down. Gone are the days when you’d cross out a cancelled appointment and run out of places to write. Apart from this, you can even manipulate the size and placement of your text after it’s been written. You’ll also be able to add in clear photos without the need to print. Some digital planners may even include virtual stickers you can paste around on your pages.
