ICYMI, the country’s fist Olympic gold medalist is now engaged! Hidilyn Diaz’s longtime boyfriend and coach Julius Naranjo popped the question on October 17 with a special array of celebs – and an on-brand ring.

Inspired by Hidilyn’s own sport of weightlifting, her engagement ring is a beautiful barbell-inspired piece that was perfectly made for the athlete. Though it’s not obvious from afar, the details are what make it stick.
Made by Manila Diamond Studio, the golden band is imprinted with “Tokyo 2020” on its band and two barbell weights that envelope a perfectly cut diamond on top.
With the Tokyo Olympics being the place where Hidilyn solidified her skills after training with Julian for years, it’s truly a momentous place for the couple.
The diamond studio also shared that Julius helped design the ring himself. He wanted it to be perfectly fit for their love story.
“Philippines first Olympic gold medalist, Hidilyn Diaz’s engagement ring, was inspired by @hidilyndiaz ’s love, strength, and passion,” they shared on Instagram.
“In collaboration with Coach Julius, we brought life to what could only be the perfect ring for her. Another gold for our champ!”
Hidilyn and Julius met in 2017 during a weightlifting competition in Turkmenistan. Julius saw Hidilyn’s potential and joined her team as her strength and conditioning coach.
After a few years of being friends, they eventually became the golden couple we now know.
