Rumors about the two Kering-owned labels Gucci and Balenciaga working together started to swirl a few days before the launch of Gucci’s newest collection, Aria. Neither brands have confirmed anything.. until now.
Luxury fashion house Gucci has just launched its newest collection Aria under Creative Director Alessandro Michele. Known for his kitschy-cool, geek-chic aesthetic, Michele’s new collection did not disappoint. Aria showcased our favorite iconic Gucci bags, suits, and accessories—but reimagined in a way many of us didn’t think was possible.
Starting off strong, the runway lit up as “Gucci Gang” by Lil Pump played in the background. Following this theme, songs like “Gucci On My Bag” by Mier and “Green Gucci Suit” by Rick Ross ft. Future were among the songs included in the show. While this hyped up everyone watching from the comfort of their homes, the whole soundtrack for Gucci’s Aria proved just how influential the brand has been in its 100 years.
The special film highlighted Gucci’s iconic styles from the Balenciaga collection with pieces such as the dual-logo Gucci x Balenciaga coats and jackets. Another notable piece from the event is Balenciaga’s Hourglass Bag rendered with Gucci’s iconic double-G logo. While many may see this as a collaboration, Michele considers this part of his “hacking lab”, as per a press release from Gucci.
To finish off the show, Michele did not go too far from Gucci’s famous idyllic and dreamlike aesthetic as the runway soon turned into a mystical dreamland. Here, Gucci treated us to a fairytale-like imagery as we take in the label’s newest collection.
Aria paid tribute to The Savoy Hotel in London, where founder Mr. Guccio Gucci used to work as a bell-boy. The newest collection also gives a nod to Gucci’s equestrian roots, with accessories such as riding helmets as a big part of the show.
From jewel-encrusted pieces to square-shouldered and padded coats, this show was truly a celebration fit for the iconic fashion house’s centenary year.
