Here Are 3 K-pop Girl Groups That Are Global Superstars In The Making

By

These K-pop girl groups are closely following the footsteps of Blackpink, Red Velvet, and Twice

The members of 2ne1, Girls Generation, and Wonder Girls along with their batch mates have gone their separate ways and are now doing their respective solo projects. Now, it’s Blackpink, Twice, and Red Velvet who enjoy, not only the global recognition, but the hearts of many K-pop enthusiasts as well. However, we already know that nothing lasts forever; these girls would want to live their lives separately as well from pursuing their individual careers, dreams, and maybe even start a family of their own. Even if it may sound like a sad news, but life is a cycle, and there will be new icons that will step up and inherit the spotlight. Here are some of Korean girl groups who are already icons in the making not only because of their good looks, and talent, but also with their out of the box, and badass concepts.

Itzy

Itzy is a South Korean girl group formed by JYP Entertainment, consisting of members Yeji, Lia, Ryujin, Chaeryeong, and Yuna. The group debuted on February 12, 2019 with the release of their single album, It’z Different.

Even though they are relatively new, they have already produced successful title tracks from their debut: Dalla Dalla which already garnered 217 million views, to their latest comeback, Mafia In The Morning which is already at 153 Million views even if it was just released 3 months ago. Itzy’s known for breaking the K-pop girl group mold. Unlike theire predecessors, their music focuses on self love and empowerment.

Aespa

Aespa is a South Korean girl group formed by SM Entertainment. The group consists of Karina, Giselle, Winter and Ningning. The group debuted on November 17, 2020 with the release of their debut single, Black Mamba which now has 169 Million views.

The rising K-pop group’s concept ties with digital culture. The members have their counterpart avatars that are always present in their music videos. They are referred to as “æs” (pronounced like “eyes”), and they’re basically Aespa’s online avatars that have been created from all of the data the members have uploaded to the internet. Simply, this is an allegory about our offline versus online selves. Aespa boasts a roster of members who have amazing vocals, as expected from a group that comes from SM Entertainment. Their recent hit, Next Level, a remake of A$ton Wyld’s track, which was part of the movie soundtrack for Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw has now garnered 138 million views because of its catchy lyrics and choreography.

GIDLE

(G)I-dle, is a South Korean multi-national girl group formed by Cube Entertainment in 2018. The group consists of five members: Miyeon, Minnie, Soyeon, Yuqi, and Shuhua. Originally a six-piece, Soojin departed from the group in August 2021. Aside from their culturally mixed group, GIDLE was also known as one of the few K-pop girl groups who produce their own songs, care of their leader Soyeon.

Even if their earlier concepts showed a”gypsy-inspired” aesthetic, GIDLE can’t really be tied into one genre, and that is their strength. Their debut song, Latata is now at 167 Million views, and the public’s response to their every comeback show that there’s no way, but up for the group.
