It has been 10 years since makeup artist Albert Kurniawan flew to Manila from Indonesia to pursue his dreams. Since then, he has rose to fame with his bold eye makeup creations, responsible for the cover-worthy looks of his muses such as Heart Evangelista-Escudero and Megan Young.

Last night, Kurniawan celebrated this career milestone in Makati Shangri-La, bringing together those nearest and dearest to him. In addition to this, he surprised guests with another announcement: the launch of his very own makeup line, Teviant.
“This makeup collection is something I’ve been working on for the past three years. It was a collaboration with Heart, one of my dearest friends and muses. Seeing it come to reality was a great feeling–nakakatanggal ng pagod and stress,” he says.
His very first Teviant collection centers on his signature look, as it is composed of products for the eyes, eyelashes and eyebrows. There are striking eye shadow palettes in Amore, Señorita, Queen, and Mademoiselle, liquid glitter eyeliner, an eyelash curler, mascara, falsies, and eyebrow products–anything and everything to bring out the beauty of the eyes.

“If I had to describe the past 10 years in one word, it would be ‘dream,'” he excitedly shares. “I came to this country knowing nobody, but I was welcomed with open arms. While it obviously wasn’t easy to make it in the industry, everything still feels like a dream.”
Humble and approachable, Kurniawan remains to be one of the industry’s sweethearts despite his status. When asked about what he has learned from the past 10 years, he replies, “In this industry, being a makeup artist is not just about how beautiful your makeup is. It is also about your attitude towards your clients and co-workers. That’s something I’ve learned from experience that I cannot get from anywhere else.”
