Go Get ‘Em Tiger: The New Delecity is a Combination of Onitsuka Tiger’s Classic Style and Legacy

On a mission to reach new heights, the platforms are making a roaring comeback through the Japanese shoe brand

Whenever the name Onitsuka Tiger is mentioned, its participation in pop and cinema culture easily comes to mind. The shoes were popularized by martial artist Bruce Lee as he was often seen wearing a pair of OTs during his heydays.

After the brand’s rebirth in 2002, actress Uma Thurman wore the iconic yellow-black Mexico 66 in Kill Bill Vol. 1 as an ode to the martial artist. It has also collaborated with popular brands like Givenchy, Valentino, Shu Uemura, and Street Fighter. Even members of the British Monarchy have been spotted wearing this heritage brand.

Mixing and matching legacies

Having evolved since its first launch in 1949, Onitsuka Tiger recently unveiled its Autumn-Winter 2022 seasonal campaign

The sports-inspired fashion brand started with its founder, Kihachiro Onitsuka, who believed in the power of sports to transform lives. More than seventy years since its launch in 1949, the eponymous brand’s ethos has evolved. Its timeless designs are reinterpreted and reinvented as an answer to those who are on the lookout for a new type of luxury through utmost comfort. Its contemporary style and meticulous craftsmanship have earned enough stripes as one of the leading footwear designers in the world.

The retro-chic DELECITY is a combination of two iconic Onitsuka Tiger shoes, the GSM for the upper half and the rigged soles of the 1950s basketball shoes

Since its cinematic comeback, the Ontisuka Tiger has been spotted both on television and movies. It’s no surprise that the iconic contemporary shoe brand has made fans out of celebrities like Emma Watson, Willow Smith, Kristen Stewart, and Prince William.

To continue its vision of forecasting trends, the Delecity takes inspiration from two of the OT’s iconic designs led by its creative director, Andrea Pompilio. The upper design is carved after the GSM, which stands for “Game, Set Match”, the original 80s tennis shoes. While the outsoles are from the iconic rigged soles of the 1950s basketball shoes. These iconic designs were combined to form a shoe of iconic heritage but reinterpreted for the future of athleisure.

The DELECITY comes in two colorways, the White/Habanero and White/Burnt Olive

As a rendition of two archetypal shoes, the gender-neutral Delecity’s chunky soles are a perfect match for those who want to add some height and a pep in their step wherever you take it for a walk in the city. Its retro-chic yellow lightweight rubber soles and OrthoLite sockliner won’t weigh you down as it’s built for lasting comfort to get you through the day.

The Delecity comes in two vivid colorways, the White/Habanero and White/Burnt Olive, which gives the platforms a modern take while giving your outfit an elevated look.
