Fendi Just Came Out With The First Outrageous Trend For 2018

By

Last year was a definite time for mundane, everyday things to be spun into expensive fashion trends. From $300 tapes to roller skate high heels and bikes emblazoned with designer logos, 2017 had it in the bag for turning the regular into upscale fads. But after several iterations of these items (we’re looking at you, Colette), we’re curious to know what else designers will be coming up with now that we’ve greeted the new year. And it seems that we’re off to a jumpstart as Fendi just brought out the first bizarre trend at Milan Fall/Winter ’18.

On the final day of Milan men’s fashion week, creative director of accessories and menswear, Silvia Fendi, unveiled umbrella hats to literally keep you covered with hands-free comfort and convenience. But rather than a multicoloured style, Fendi’s more stylish version comes with the Italian house’s distinctive ‘F’ monogram.

It was a travel extravaganza as Fendi converted the runway into an airport. The collection was riddled with rain gear and travel-friendly essentials with the space nothing short of meticulous — it was transformed into what looks like a replica of the Linate airport. A departure board, baggage claim and ‘Nothing to Declare’ arrivals backdrops were present, along with a conveyor belt filled with a diverse selection of vintage Fendi cases, boxes stickered with the brand’s logo and even a monogrammed pram, as the director unloaded more than just the Italian house’s signature luggage.

“We wanted to return to the Fendi roots, to explore the Fendi identity,” Fendi explained to i-D. “When you travel, comfort is everything,” she added. “So, the trousers are adjustable — the elasticated waists mean you can adjust them like baby clothes.”

The show wrapped with Fendi seemingly creating a flight class of their own. Forget first class, the luxury brand just made traveling chic and convenient.
