Actor Enchong Dee is facing charges for cyber libel for a “defamatory” tweet.

Drivers United for Mass Progress and Equal Rights (DUMPER) Representative Claudine Diana Bautista-Lim filed a P1-billion cyberlaw case against Enchong for a tweet alleging the representative of using taxpayers’ money.

After photos of Bautista-Lim’s Balesin wedding swirled on social media, Enchong tweeted out: “The money for commuters and drivers went to her wedding. Let’s not prolong this conversation and don’t say otherwise.”

The tweet in question has since been deleted.

Enchong soon issued an apology, saying “I have been reckless in the tweet I posted and I take full responsibility for my lapse in judgment.”

The actor went on to express his apologies to the Congresswoman and their families.

“I reacted based on impulse without thinking of the consequences nor the harm it may cause,” he furthered that he will continue to fact check to avoid sensationalism.

The Congresswoman filed charges two months later in the Office of the Provincial Prosecutor in Davao Occidental on Thursday, November 11, saying that Enchong’s tweet was “to the detriment and injury to my honor and name.”

Enchong has yet to release a statement since Bautista-Lim filed the case.
