Dolce & Gabbana ‘The Great Show’ Cancelled for Racism Issues?

By

Dolce & Gabbana ‘The Great Show’ in China just got canceled after several racism claims surfaced such as the brand’s stereotype social media campaign and co-founder’s Stefano Gabanna’s alleged racist comments on the Chinese race.

In an Instagram post by Diet Prada, Stefano Gabbana allegedly made unpleasant comments about the Chinese community.

On the other hand, Gabbana denied the issue and stated in an Instagram post that his account was hacked by an anonymous person.

D&G also claimed that apart from Gabanna, the official Instagram page was hacked as well. According to BOF, the hacked accounts made derogatory comments about China and the Chinese race.

Chinese celebrities and models later refused to attend the Dolce & Gabbana Shanghai show after Stefano’s racist remarks.

But even before Gabbana’s comment, controversies were already thrown at the Italian fashion brand after they posted a social media campaign that sparked an outcry for its stereotypical representation of the race.

D&G posted the social media campaign on China’s main social media platform, Weibo. The post was then taken down in less than 24 hours after it sparked an outrage in the Chinese community. However, an Instagram account calling out fashion brands was fast enough to repost the video.

Meanwhile, Dolce & Gabbana has yet to give any comment about the issue.
