Disco Fever: All the Ways You Can Wear Glitter Eyeshadow This Season

By

As the beauty sphere evolves, the festive yet wearable eye look proved that it can sparkle bright beyond the holiday season

Prismatic eye looks are quite ubiquitous in this year’s beauty mood board. Metallic silver shadows took over Bronx and Banco’s Fall/Winter 2022 showcase while glittered accents dominated Mark Fast, Peter Do, and Batsheva’s Spring/Summer 2023 runways. In pop culture, holographic pigments swathed Taylor Swift’s lids in her “Bejeweled” music video. It’s one perennial category in beauty that can stand the test of time.

According to makeup artist Janica Cleto, the pigment’s reflective properties add an extra dimension to any eye look and can inject a sense of fantasy in any makeup format. “Using primer or concealer helps powdered shimmers or glitters have a grip on the skin,” she notes. The artist also shared her makeup equation for an alluring appeal. “A combination of a dark base or shadow then layering it with a sheer shimmer or glitter would surely make it look more glamorous.”

It’s undeniable that a shimmered gaze is a festive yet wearable beauty look. Here, we explore celebrity-approved ways to wear eye makeup.

Celestial blue

The blue spectrum is inarguably one of the most universally flattering hues in a palette. Here, makeup artist Janica Cleto dressed the lids with a mix of darker and lighter shades to create a soft contrast. A sheer iridescent iteration is layered on top of the base to create a cosmic appeal, while a combination of bronzed cheeks and nude lips persuades a more glamorous direction to the overall beauty look.

Disco diva

Jelly Eugenio’s Disco Heaven is a true visual satisfaction for fans of prismatic eye looks. Glitter accents and shimmered shadows are central in the beauty direction, serving a series of standout makeup treatments that is exclusive for every muse. Each format is hard to miss. Kylie Verzosa, for one, nods to a classic ‘70s disco look with a metallic silver base punctuated with shimmered embellishments.

Haute Gems

A sheer pigment and a slew of press-on gemstones make a heavenly combination for a minimal yet festive eye makeup look. Decoding the work of Patrick Ta on Gigi Hadid, the artist used a subtle shine on the base and adorned the inner corner of her eyes with embellishments. Incorporate the look this holiday season by opting for a color combination of your choice.

Subtle chic

Anthea Bueno proves that a swipe of glitter can take any makeup to the next level. As seen on Janine Gutierrez, the shimmered pigment gave a new life to her nude eyeshadow. It’s more soft-toned compared to the preceding examples, making it a perfect choice for anyone who is looking for a subtle way to wear sparkles.

Dazed details

Nadine Lustre’s eye makeup packs a powerful punch on the lids. A wash of a shimmered terracotta-like shade sits on her lids, while a glittered blue liner punctuates the overall look. Incorporating a negative space accent can amplify any look. Get more creative by playing with shapes and colors that feel true to you.
