What 2021 needs right now is a little bit of hope and a little bit of strength.(Or well, a lot.) And that’s exactly what Pantone’s color of the year brings to us. Last December, Pantone officially released their much-awaited pick, PANTONE 17-5104 Ultimate Gray + PANTONE 13-0647 Illuminating. More than the commerciality of the colors, Pantone states in their official release that, “It is a story of color that encapsulates deeper feelings of thoughtfulness with the promise of something sunny and friendly.” We’ve decided to make the most of Pantone’s Color of The Year by revisiting a few beauty looks that utilize gray and yellow. Find inspiration from our top picks and express yourself through make-up.
Let’s start off strong with J.Lo’s take on a bold lip. In 2013, Jennifer Lopez came out in her Live It Up music video wearing yellow lipstick. It was absolutely iconic. In 2021, you can recreate the look by powdering your lips before adding in an extra layer of lipstick.
Metallic and Smokey
Now that the shag is back, you can pair the glam rock ‘do with a smoked out eye. Give Debbie Harry a run for her money by reinterpreting her edgy look in a modern way. Instead of opting for a coral lip, you can tone down the look by wearing nude.
Bright Cut Crease
The beloved cut crease won’t be leaving 2021 any time soon. Reinvent the look by using a bright shade of yellow to bring attention towards the eyes. Additionally, you can add in a dark shade of brown to shape the outer corners of the eye.
Sparkly Inner Eye
Placing glitters, shimmers, or metallics on the inner corners of the eyes, while leaving the rest fairly neutral can create the illusion of liveliness. Take cues from Bella Hadid’s gray eye make-up and blend the shadow till the upper eyelid.
In 2021, let’s break all the make-up rules. Wear your highlight on the outer and inner corner of your eyes. You’d be surprised to find out that this make-up trick elongates and lifts your eyes.
When in doubt, bring out a metallic gray lipstick. It’s a no-fuss look for surprise Zoom meetings and it is packed with a lot of attitude. Just make sure you keep everything else to a bare minimum, as you wouldn’t want to scare away your colleagues.
Yellow Cat Eye
Makeup mogul, Kylie Jenner, shows us a fun rendition of a yellow cat eye. Don’t be fooled by the high fashion layout. You can definitely recreate this look with a yellow shadow palette, a precision brush, and concealer. Use the concealer and brush to shape the eyeshadow into a flicked up look.
