Celebrity-Approved Ways to Wear Red Lipstick This Holiday Season

From a classic matte rouge to a lacquer finish, red lipsticks remain to be a quintessential holiday beauty signature

Red lipsticks are a true perennial beauty. In Spring/Summer 2023 runways, classic rouge accompanied works of prominent designers Vivienne Westwood and Christian Siriano. In pop culture, the time-tested shade is named the beauty signature of icons Marilyn Monroe, Madonna, and Taylor Swift. Inarguably, a slash of the luscious shade can render an elegant appeal to any makeup format.

As the festive season approaches, red lipstick reclaims its title as a holiday beauty favorite. Here, we take lessons from celebrities on how to don a classic rouge lip this season.

Bond girl

Sarah Lahbati proves that a rouge lip has an undeniable allure. Here, the actress pared down the eye makeup with a sheer shimmer shadow, while a luscious red shade punctuated the overall look. It’s a minimal approach to glam that leaves a maximum impact. Incorporate the makeup format this holiday season by adding a slew of press-on gemstones on the lids.

Grunge maven

A swipe of a darker red shade creates a grungy appeal to a holiday look. Decoding the work of Robbie Pinera on Anne Curtis, the artist preferred a rich crimson shade for her lips and a swish of matte brown shadow on her lids. It’s a new approach to a festive glam—a perfect makeup format that can be worn on a night out.

Vampire lips

As mentioned previously, vampire beauty is taking over the beauty sphere. Vampire lip, for one, is a dark feminine twist to the ‘90s lipstick trend. A dark creamy liner outlines the lips, while a blood-like red shade fills the negative space. It’s a format that flatters a minimal to a full glam look. Get more creative by incorporating a coat of clear gloss for a lacquer finish.

Red punch

Max Collins’ entry shows how you can wear a punchy red lip throughout the season. Here, minimal eye makeup complements the intensely pigmented shade, while a soft-toned blush adds a hint of color to her cheeks. Elsewhere, details like her fully groomed brows and defined lashes complete her look.

Parisian chic

A red lip and a classic winged liner are the pièce de résistance of French beauty. It’s also the visual equation that is omnipresent in fashion global icon Heart Evangelista. Artist Justin Soriano swatched a classic rouge shade on his muse’s lips and defined her eyes with a pigmented bold liner. It’s a classic statement look that can transcend time and trends.
