On the day before landfall, typhoon Odette rapidly strengthened from a Category 1 to a Category-5 equivalent storm. As it struck last Saturday, the super typhoon has displaced thousands of individuals from tourists to citizens in Leyte, Negros, Cebu, Palawan, Surigao, Bohol, Iloilo Samar, and Cagayan De Oro. The need for national assistance and media coverage on the heavy-affected areas is vital as the cities are left with little to no communication lines and electricity, alongside a critical shortage of food, water, and gas.

According to the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council, over 181,000 families have been affected by Odette with 480,000 seeking shelter in evacuation centers. A total of 1.8 million Filipinos are listed as “affected” by the floods and winds.

Organizations have put together relief efforts to help our fellow kababayans and others are providing reports on the catasphore. Palawan is in need of relief goods such as canned food, tents, solar lights, water filters, and hygiene kits. While in Surigao, locals are needing constructions materials such as common nails, electrical pipes, roofing materials, solar lights, alongside water filters, and satellite phones.

Here’s a list of official donation and volunteer drives for Typhoon Odette:
