We wouldn’t be seeing any fur at Burberry’s future collections.
It seems as if they never stop giving us good news, one after another. Following his recent appointment as the chief creative officer, Riccardo Tisci is finally launching his first collection with the brand. On September 17, at the London Fashion Week, we’ll be seeing their first fur-free collection. And this is only the first step for more sustainable fashion choices for their consumers.
New Era Of Modern Luxury
Tisci said in an Instagram post that this change opens up a “NEW ERA” for the brand, followed by the hashtag #modernluxury. “Modern luxury means being socially and environmentally responsible,” CEO Marco Gobbetti shares. And true to their words, the company has completely banned the use of angora, Asiatic raccoon, fox, mink, and rabbit fur.
With this, Burberry also announced that they will no longer be destroying unsold goods. The brand also partnered with sustainable luxury company Elvis & Kresse to transform 120 tonnes of leather offcuts into new products over the next five years.
It seems that the future is only getting brighter for the British brand. Ahead of this, other luxury brands like Versace and Gucci are also turning to sustainable alternatives. Lead by top-of-mind luxury brands, it appears that the environmental cost of fashion is slowly being resolved.
