The Philippines’ 15th president, Noynoy Aquino or PNoy has passed away.

Former president and son of late Senator Benigno “Ninoy” Aquino Jr. and former president Cory Aquino, Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino III or “Pnoy”, was reported to have passed away this morning, June 24. PNoy was 61 years old.

Known for being the 15th president of the Philippines, Aquino won the presidential elections in 2010—a year after his mother Cory’s death in 2009—and served as the head of state until 2016. His presidential term was known for the country’s economic growth of more than 6 percent, achieving investment grade status for the country.

It was also during his term that the government challenged China on their claim towards the West Philippine Sea in the Permanent Court of Arbitration in The Hague. Laws such as the reproductive health bill and national health insurance act were also introduced during his presidency.

PNoy was reportedly rushed to Capitol Medical Center in Quezon City this morning, and passed away minutes later. His cause of death is yet to be confirmed.
