How Lady Gagita Just-Danced her way into our hearts

Lady Gagita rose to fame when her brilliant parody of Lady Gaga’s Telephone blew up on the internet in 2010. It was highly praised (even Gaga’s stylist, Nicola Formichetti, took notice) for its sheer ingenuity—a fusion of found art, humor, and impersonation. Imagine all that with zero budget except for computer rental fees for editing. “I knew that was the moment that I should pursue drag,” she recalls. “This was really my calling.” The video, which amassed over two million views, was our introduction to the mind of Lady Gagita.

The heart of her art is impersonation. She’s so great at what she does that even Lady Gaga, Cardi B, and Katy Perry themselves, no less, couldn’t miss the talent she presents. She continues, “My drag is not the typical gandagandahan. I use my drag with a purpose, particularly expressing my political opinions and empowering the LGBTQIA+ advocacies.” Her strong presence during the 2022 campaign period is a testament to that.

“My drag screams versatility,” she explains. “I easily adapt to any environment depending on the theme given. When I perform, I make sure that the attention is on me, not their cellphones.” The Lady Gagita experience is the ultimate package: on-point choreography, audience intimacy, and wild star power.

She has positioned herself masterfully online, creating makeup transformations and parodies way before everyone else. “I used to work as a full-time drag queen, but I am not just the drag queen you see in clubs,” she says. “I always make sure that I am visible on social media.”

While she’s the first to admit that her career has been bumpy, she says, “I have been to a lot of questioning if my drag is still worth keeping. We can’t please everybody. I managed to overcome every challenge that came my way.” She’s earned the respect of her peers and fans and even proven doubters to see and believe why her talent has endured for over a decade.

“I’m excited for you to watch Drag Den. This is the story of the underdogs. A show without much drama but lessons and knowledge are overflowing.”

Drag Den premieres on December 8, 2022 via Prime Video.
