Designing is a continuous effort to break boundaries, and these are moments when designers give life to the unusual and the out-of-the-ordinary in order to push the limits of fashion. The ideas and standards of what is considered beautiful or aesthetically pleasing are challenged as new concepts are introduced on a global scale.
In his constant pursuit of groundbreaking creativity, Nicolas Ghesquière sought to reimagine style and proportions with femininity at the very heart of Louis Vuitton’s Spring/Summer 2023 collection.
Held at the Cour Carrée, Louvre Palace, model and award-winning actress Hoyeon Jung opened the show, clad in a crop top and skirt decorated with emphasized detailing draped on her shoulders and her hips. Another fascinating detail are the large scale zippers placed at the very center of Hoyeon’s outfit.
Enlarged and emphasized—a theme that reigned this collection. Whether the ensemble was decorated with larger-than-life locks, labels, clasps, buckles, or zippers, these normally ordinary details are still aligned with the DNA of Louis Vuitton. But as it reached its end, prints and patterns came into play, which gave more life to the upscaled details.
Though it may seem peculiar to some, Nicolas Ghesquière’s play in proportion symbolizes something greater. This stylistic exercise brings femininity to a new perspective as he disrupts its very codes with reimagined proportions and style.
