Gucci unveils a new playful collection featuring a re-imagined GG logo in the form of an apple, making it a must-have for any romantic reason.
The apple is a well-known symbol of longing, youth, and longevity. In Chinese culture, the apple also symbolizes a wish for peace. With all these references, it’s safe to assume that offering an apple has always meant to recognize love. And since Gucci has always been known for taking inspiration in history, they made it a point to create yet another special edition adding to its lineup of iconic monogram goods, in time for the Qixi Festival (Chinese Valentine’s Day) that you can give your partner this season of love.
Not many people are actually accustomed to this annual tradition, but Qixi takes place every year on the seventh day of the seventh month of the lunar calendar. As this occasion is now widely celebrated across the Chinese-speaking diaspora, the storied Italian fashion house introduces the GG with an apple print collection featuring a motif made up of two interlocking red letters, probably an allusion to the symbol of infinity.
Perfectly capturing the brand’s contemporary romantic aesthetic, the vast selection of accessories from bags, wallets, watches, and even phone cases use the original GG supreme patterned canvas as the base, with an apple motif illustrated atop. But as for the coveted GG Marmont, it has a white background that adds contrast to the apple graphics. And then an unusual final expression of the new motif unexpectedly comes in the form of a coin case made in the shape of just one of the GG with apple printed “apples.”
Now, they’re not only releasing it for accessories because they also did it for shoes. The Gucci apple print is screen-printed onto a cotton fabric base, which has a very dense and compact weave. The pattern sits on the beige and ebony GG supreme pattern for a slide and Ace sneaker, while a pink or white cotton fabric base for the Gucci 1977 Tennis shoe.
