7 New Quarantine Hobbies to Try During the 2021 ECQ

By

We’re getting a take two of 2020. And, the only way to get through this is by picking up a new quarantine hobby

If I could sum up my 2020 quarantine experience, it would be planting, baking, and livestreaming. I think I speak for everyone when I say we’ve all been hoping for a better year in 2021. This all changed after the announcement by Malacañang on the implementation of Enhanced Community Quarantine (ECQ) in NCR Plus. Now, our dreams of a COVID free new year have been destroyed. We’re facing new battles and challenges as each day goes by. The least of our problems right now would be to find a new hobby to try out. However, we shouldn’t disregard the mental benefit of keeping our headspace occupied. If it got us through 2020’s hate crimes and pandemic ridden streets, then it can definitely help us cope with all the hardships 2021 brings.

Instead of suggesting hobbies you’ve probably seen all over Tiktok, we want to be able to introduce to you new activities for the new ECQ. These activities can be done within the comforts of your home or inside your barangay from 6am to 9am. But, don’t forget to keep safe in everything you do. Wear a mask and wash your hands.

Crochet
The sacred art of crochet has been around since the late 1960s, but is currently making a serious comeback in the quarantine hobby scene. You can try crocheting out by buying a starter pack online. They usually come with a crochet hook, yarn, and scissors.

Roller skating
Growing up with the movie Whip It! starring Drew Barrymore and Elliot Page awakened my small desire of becoming a roller derby star. The roller skating community in the Philippines has definitely increased, so there are more skates and tutorials available for you to try.

Sewing
Maybe it’s time to try your hand at sewing. Personally, I got a Sew Easy machine from online and it was the best decision I’ve ever made. I spent weeks fixing up garments in my closet. Aside from this, I tried out making dresses from scratch. They aren’t perfect, but it was really fun to do.

Resin Play
We’re calling it. This is the new DIY trend that will take over 2021. You can make so many cute items using resin. There are now tutorials on pressed resin flowers, glittered resin coasters, and so much more.

Biking
Looking for an outdoor exercise you can do in a socially distanced fashion? Look no further, biking is definitely for you. Lots of people have been trading public transportation with biking and we’re all for it. It’s a lot more eco-friendly and you’ll burn calories in the process.

Beading
We all did this at some point in our lives. Maybe it was the buy and sell you did in grade school or the friendship bracelets during preschool, but you definitely had a beading moment. It was cool in the 90s and it’s cool again now. All you need is a string of nylon and a few quirky beads.

Online Community Forums
The rise of online community forums has begun. You could say it all started with Clubhouse the invite only audio-chat iPhone app. Once invited, you can have the chance to talk to industry mavens such as Elon Musk, Oprah, Ashton Kutcher, and most recently Kevin Hart.
