The Upperdeck just opened a brand new spinning studio. Here’s why it’s our newest fitness destination.
There’s no denying that cardio is an important part of fitness, whether you like it or not. If you’re like me, preferring a quick weightlifting session as a go-to workout, a good sweat session is a great change of pace.
With so many new workout crazes being offered left and right, one easily stands out as the exercise du jour: indoor cycling. It’s been here for a while, but it’s definitely proven that it’s here to stay. Indoor cycling, or spinning, has easily won over Manila’s fitness warriors—and for good reason. Spinning promises a workout that is quick (one class is 45 mins to an hour), effective (reportedly burning 400-600 calories), and most importantly, fun.
Each class is different in terms of difficulty level. It also varies according to the set or program the instructor has planned. Some classes are heavy on sprints, while others focus on jumps or isolations. These variations ultimately add to the excitement each class can bring.
But with so many indoor cycling options to choose from, how do you know which one is the best? Personally, I choose according to the comfortable handling of the bike, the instructors, and most importantly, the price. While most spinning classes offer quality workouts, it can usually cost you an arm and a leg. Ultimately, a workout that you can sustain is the one that is best.
Enter Club Cycling by The Upper Deck, an all-in-one venue for all your sporting needs. The Upper Deck has been popular for its basketball courts, wall climbing, and badminton courts. Now, it finally offers a spinning class—with a twist or two.
Upon entering Club Cycling’s room, you can immediately tell its different. The first thing you’ll notice is its circular set-up, with the instructor right smack at the middle on a rotating platform. This allows an optimal 360 degree view of the instructor, making it easier to follow the routines.
The second thing you’ll see are the pedals. You won’t need to borrow any special cleats—you can wear your own footwear of choice. This is a convenient change as I won’t need to change my shoes and wear a pair that’s for public use.
You’ll also won’t want to miss their unique power meter that actually shows you your RPM, duration, and your resistance level. It’s surprising that other cycling classes don’t offer this, as constantly checking your data is key. It not only gives you an accurate measure, it ensures your safety as well. And as we all know, with fitness, your safety comes first.
Then of course, there’s the disco ball, the lights, and the mirrors. All of these add to the unique ambiance and exciting experience Club Cycling has set up for its members. I’ve personally signed up immediately after trying out one class—the instructors are all equally fun, engaging, and challenging.
Not that you would need any more convincing, but check out our experience by watching the video below. It’s definitely worth every drop of sweat.
