When you think of Louis Vuitton bags, the words “classic” and “streamlined” come to mind but for their Cruise 2023 collection, Nicolas Ghesquière takes the iconic shapes of the French fashion house and reimagined them for the future. Held at the historic Salk Institute in California, models stepped out armor-like and nomadic silhouettes carrying handbags in metallic hues that beautifully reflected the sunlight.

Playing with the duality of form and function, Ghesquiere presented new takes on fan favorites like the Petite Malle that now comes in a shade that’s glassy as a mirror. Soft trunks, a wearable and relaxed version of their iconic design, have also been finally added to their womenswear line. While clutches in the shape of books and monogram skateboards were some of the more conceptual arm candies that were shown. Other returning favorites include the Dauphine, Cannes, and Coussin bags that appeared in fresh, striking colorways.

If you’re looking to invest in another handbag that can be worn on and off the runway, here are our top 5 picks from the Louis Vuitton Cruise 2023 collection.

1. Petite Valise

Sporting both mirrored surfaces and the iconic monogram pattern, the new Petite Valise is an ode to how the Louis Vuitton name became synonymous with fine luxury trunks. It takes the form of a traditional trunk but shrunken down to the size of a modern handbag.

2. Soft Trunk

If you’re eyeing for a trunk-shaped bag but prefer it to be more relaxed and less bulky, the Soft Trunk has finally made its way to the womenswear line. It still features the recognizable boxy shape and metallic details of the maison’s trunk, but it’s now redesigned in soft leather to make it more practical for every day.

3. Motorsport Flap Bag

One of the more modern handbags from the line, their latest flap bag incorporates motorsport-inspired padding in a range of metallic and color-blocked hues. The bag also features their S-lock that is used on other designs like the Petite Malle.

4. Giant Papillon

The coveted monogram Papillon was elevated to another level in both size and design for the Cruise 2023 collection. Known for its sports duffel bag shape, the line revamps it by giving it a silver cylindrical body with side monogram patterns.

5. Silver Studded Cannes

The Monogram Cannes’ elegant, classic details will never go out of style but if you want to spice things up, go for its edgier and daring sister found in the Cruise 2023 collection. Sporting a black leather body with silver studs, this bag is a true statement piece.
