2019 Hair Trends, As Predicted By The Country’s Experts

By

In the mood to switch up your look? Whether it be through a subtle cut or a color you’ve never dreamed of rocking, these 2019 hair trends prove to be fresh and wearable. We interviewed hair experts Lourd Ramos of Creations by Lourd Ramos, Jude Hipolito and Rose Velasco of JuRo Salon Exclusif, Henri Calayag of Henri Calayag Salon and Jof Fantone, Chief Stylist of The Color Bar to get a better glimpse of what is coming our way.

1. The Fringe

Bangs were a huge hit in 2018, and it looks like they’re not disappearing anytime soon. “More clients now understand that if they want to immediately elevate their look, getting bangs is an easy way to do that. They can be so fashion forward!” shares Lourd.

The hairstylist adds that the influence over the style of bangs may vary per continent: “Europeans and Asians may wear it differently, for example. The fringe is nothing new, but as time goes by, we learn to re-create them to give them a modern vibe.”

2. Back to Basics

A couple of times a year, Jude and Rose of JuRo Salon Exclusif travel far and wide to train with the best hairdressers and to stay up-to-date on trends. “We take and learn, digest, practice, interpret and apply all these to our clientele,” they tell me when asked how experts such as themselves predict hair trends. And this year, they predict something that will bring us back to our core: soft textures and the natural blending of colors through a fusion of techniques.

“Whether the hair is short, medium or long, we are currently doing cuts that are softly textured with natural, loose waves. For hair colors, Rose is currently doing a progression of the French balayage into a hybrid foilyage–a combination of foil work and free-hand coloring techniques that gives hair a multi-dimensional blend,” they share. This shows us that while outrageous trends may come and go, many clients will still want something close to their natural style.

3. The Return of the Bob

All the experts agreed that towards the end of last year, more and more clients have been asking for a fresh chop. But according to Henri, who bases his trends on both his regular clients and social media, the bob is still here to stay. “There is still that craze surrounding the bob—whether it is a shorter, jagged bob or an asymmetrical one,” he starts. “It is all about medium length hair, nothing longer than that.”

4. Silver Hair

“In 2019, we will see a lot of bold color transformations, which will be made more fitting on the client with techniques such as balayage, foilyage, strandlights and babylights,” starts Jof of The Color Bar, adding that fusion–a meeting of the techniques–will be more evident in hairstylists’ works very soon.

One color in particular that has been standing out recently? Silver. “Women have proven to be risk takers lately when it comes to their hair color,” says Jof. “Majority of color requests came from our Blond Ambition color service, where we did a lot of Smoky Gray and Platinum Blonde. This goes to show that the sky is the limit when it comes to style!”
