JC Buendia Highlights A Less Is More Adage At TernoCon 2018

While grandiose Swarovski embellishments, intricate beadwork and feather detailing on various dresses often leave people astounded, JC Buendia opted to take the opposite direction in designing his pieces for TernoCon 2018—and it was magnificent. Widely known as the go-to designer of previous presidents because of his clean lines and impeccable tailoring, he opted to focus on the aesthetic that showcased a less is more adage.

With an aim to make the traditional terno appealing to the younger generation, he realized that the solution for it was to make a two-piece garment where ladies can mix and match the pieces. According to JC, “Designing is problem solving, thus, I thought—can you use the blusa with your all gown skirt, with your cigarette pants? Can you use the inabel wrap skirt with a  t-shirt top, a merino turtle neck sweater? The possibilities became endless, and in millennials speak—Instagram worthy.”

As JC addressed the wearability issues of the Terno head-on by creating separates for his collection, his creations also served as a counter proposal to the baroque sensibilities by focusing on streamlined design.
